A fine example of an antique George III quart sized silver tankard in excellent condition. Although today the words tankard and mug have become synonymous, a silver tankard is a tall one-handled cup with a lid and usually a distinctive thumb piece. A silver mug is a simpler drinking cup with a handle. Historically both tankards and mugs would have been made in silver or pewter. A silver tankard such as this will make a fine gift for a birthday, husband’s anniversary present or marking a retirement. This silver tankard shape is a traditional design and perfect for engraving.
