Pair of Victorian silver candlesticks

Year: 1895
Place: London
Product ID SC381-18
Height 305mm (12")
Diameter 125mm (5")
This elegant pair of antique silver candlesticks in the neoclassical style were made by Thomas Bradbury in 1895. Each candlestick has a square base with a medallion, bow and swags on all sides and a pretty harebell design along the edges. The round columns of these candlesticks are similarly decorated with harebells and bows, while the capitals have an attractive openwork style incorporating medallions and drapes. Each candlestick has a removable hallmarked nozzle for ease of cleaning. Neoclassicism was born in Rome in the mid-18th century before spreading throughout Europe. It is the name given to Western movements in the arts and architecture that draw inspiration from the "classical" art and culture of Ancient Greece or Rome.
