Lovely William IV gold plate on silver vinaigrette with engine turned lid and cast floral border. The internal grille is beautifully hand pierced with a scrolling foliate design. The cartouche on the lid is engraved with script initials EEB. Vinaigrettes are very collectable and come in many forms. They have an interior pierced grille which lifts up revealing a piece of sponge saturated in an aromatic perfume to ward off bad odours, which was almost a necessity at the height of their use in the early 19th century.
