An exceptional and massive Victorian silver candelabrum (or single candelabra) made by the royal silversmith John Samuel Hunt for Hunt & Roskell, late Storr & Mortimer. Fully cast in exceptional detail with lion masks holding the twin arm sections with swags dropping from openwork medallions. The tapering octagonal stem has alternating panels of plain and decorative relief patterns with four cast heads above while the spreading circular foot is richly decorated with further relief patterns and the inscription:

"Presented by the County of Oxford to The Rt Hon Joseph Warner Henley in recognition of his distinguished services as MP for that County during the long period of thirty seven years, April 1878"

What makes this an exceptional candelabrum is its weight. It is not loaded (filled to add weight).
