This is an excellent set of antique hand-forged Fiddle & Thread pattern silver cutlery made by George Adams, one of the finest cutlery silversmiths of the 19th century. All pieces are double-struck, double-threaded and in exceptionally good condition. Double-struck indicates that the design is struck on the front and back of each piece, requiring a heavier gauge of silver and therefore a sign of quality.

The bowls are strong and thick as are the tines of the forks. The crisp pattern shows virtually no wear at all except on the back of some of the teaspoon bowls which are slightly worn on the heels.

Fiddle Thread is the most popular basic variant of the Fiddle pattern dating from about 1805 and still produced today. It is one of the best patterns for building a service. Watch out for the French style Fiddle Thread which is slightly different with softer shoulders and a spoon that turns up.

This set comprises:

12 tablespoons
12 table forks
12 dessert spoons
12 dessert forks
12 teaspoons

Since antique silver knives rarely survive, 12 pairs of modern table and dessert knives with Old English Thread pattern silver handles and stainless steel blades are available for an additional sum. They are suitable for putting in the dishwasher.
