An impressive silver wine flagon with high-relief, chased scenes of a stag hunt among scrolling foliage and floral designs. The domed cover is surmounted with a bacchanalian cherub clasping grape vine. This substantial piece, made by a fine silversmith, has a cast mask spout and hinged lid featuring a charming cherub finial and a capacity of 2.5 litres. Also suitable for beer or water.

This fine wine jug was presented as a horse racing prize and the inscription is hand engraved on a cartouche on the side.
