Set ten American sterling silver & porcelain demi-tasse coffee cups
Set of ten, fine bone china, demi-tasse coffee cups sitting in their silver cup holders and resting on silver saucers. Made by Lenox of Pennsylvania, the coffee cups feature a double banded gold decoration around the rims, while the silver cup holders sit on stepped bases and the rims are delicately decorated with a complementary reed pattern rim. The silver handles have a small thumbpiece in the design.
For much of the 20th century, Lenox was the most prestigious American maker of silver and bone china services, with several commissioned for the White House. This particular American set of sterling silver coffee cups was made by Lenox and retailed by Shreve & Co. of San Francisco.
