Heavy quality Victorian silver cream jug in the George II style with three legs and an applied central band. The interior of this antique silver jug bears its original gold plating.

Silver cream or milk jugs made their appearance in the early 1700s as the craze for afternoon tea became hugely fashionable, and continued their popularity throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Early silver designs were very plain with a bellied body, scroll handle, low collet foot, sparrow-beak and scroll handle while later models were embellished with hand-chasing or engraving, often sitting on three feet or a single oval pedestal foot.
