Attractive and most unusual silver sauce boat with a fitted hinged domed cover. The helmet-shaped body and finial give this sauce boat a neoclassical appearance with an elegant scalloped edge and it is not only rare to see a covered silver sauce boat, but also unusual in this style during the mid-Victorian era.  The body is entirely hand raised and mounted on a spreading oval base and there is a raised scrolling ivory handle.

The engraving around the body reads:
help yersel an dinna be blate which translates as help yourself and don't be shy and may be attributable to Robbie Burns. Perfect for pouring a whisky cream sauce on your haggis on Burns Night.
