Heavy-gauge silver tumbler cup in the 17th century style of a tumbler cup. It has a satisfyingly heavy feel and slightly flattened bottom for stability and with an enlarged, scattered hallmark. The simplicity of the body makes it a perfect candidate for engraving.

The etymology of the name
tumbler - describing a short, wide glass without a handle or stem - dates to the mid-17th century and has its roots in feasting customs from the Middle Ages. Originally, the term referred to a metal cup with a round bottom that would roll or tumble on the table, compelling the drinker to finish his measure! Some tumblers were weighted at the bottom - gimballed - so that they could be put down and would automatically right themselves if knocked over.
