An early Victorian silver pint mug of exceptional quality. The body is beautifully hand chased in high relief and fine detail with foliage, floral work, scrolls and fish scale patterns. The mug is mounted on cast scrolled leaf supports and scallop shell mounts between each. The interior is gilded.

This fine mug holds a full imperial pint (20 fl oz or 568 ml) and would make a wonderful coming-of-age gift for a young man.

Embossing is a silversmithing technique where the silver is shaped by hammering the metal from the front of the piece to create a raised decorative pattern on the body of the piece. Repoussé is its sister technique and involves hammering the metal from the reverse side to push the design outwards. They were often used together on the same piece.
