HMS Trent silver centrepiece

HMS Trent silver centrepiece

HMS Trent is the third of five Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) being built to replace the current River Class vessels and, as is the custom in the Royal Navy, the Commanding Officer gave the go-ahead for a bespoke silver wardroom centrepiece to celebrate the ship's commissioning on 3 August 2020.

Traditionally, a silver wardroom centrepiece is commissioned each time a new ship or submarine is commissioned and built, unless there is an existing centrepiece from a previous incarnation of the vessel.

The design of the model usually centres around a 3D form of the ship's crest. After tendering, Langfords was awarded this particular commission for HMS Trent after our drawings were submitted and chosen by the ship's officers as the best design.

We modelled and then cast a traditional and hand-chased a silver stag with gilded crown. The base has stylised cast mounts on either side of the wooden base to resemble the bridge while the ship's crest is mounted on the front.

With the centrepiece safely on board, HMS Trent will be patrolling home waters and training ready to perform missions including border controls, fishery protection, anti-smuggling, counter-terrorism and counter-piracy.

This is an example of a bespoke naval commission. Get in touch to discuss your own ideas; we can make anything in silver.
