Hand-forged pair of Old English pattern gravy ladles or sauce ladles engraved with a family crest of a racing greyhound.

Old English pattern was the first English domestic pattern. Since the middle of the 18th century, during the reign of George III, Old English, with its easy simplicity, graceful line and simple decorative pip, has been one of the most popular and lasting of all patterns and forms the basis for several decorative versions.

Many fine articles were manufactured under the D & J Wellby name during the latter part of the Victorian era and into the 20th century.
