Comprehensive, hand-forged, sterling silver cutlery set for 12 settings in the classic Old English pattern, with all pieces fitted in their original wooden canteen box. All but two pieces were made by Carrington & Co. Being forged from a heavy gauge of silver the pieces have good heft; the bowls are deep and the curvature of all spoons and forks are more pronounced and elegant that one would find with machine stamped versions.

The knife handles are faux ivory, a man-made material designed to resemble real ivory. It is more stable than bone or ivory-handled knives and therefore will not crack. Unlike the spoons and forks, the knives are not dishwasher safe, and should be washed and dried by hand.

Originating in the 1750s, Old English probably ranks as the definitive British flatware pattern and is therefore one of the most frequently encountered in its various forms. With its simple clean lines, showing a single thumbnail to the reverse of the bowl and the pip on the front of the forks and the back of the spoons, Old English remains the most popular pattern through to the present day, and complements any table setting - traditional or modern.

This wonderful and complete service comprises:

12 table forks
12 dessert forks
12 tablespoons
12 dessert spoons
12 teaspoons (2 x Henry Atkin, 1948)
