The basset hound is a short-legged scent-hound breed that was originally bred for the purpose of hunting hare. Our silver model basset is immediately recognisable by his short, crooked legs, long hanging ears and large head, with hanging lips, sad expressive eyes and a wrinkled forehead. The tail curves up in a rather cheerful manner. Their sense of smell and ability to ground-scent is second only to that of the bloodhound.
Our fine silver basset hound models is cast in heavy-gauge sterling silver using the traditional, centuries-old technique of lost wax casting where molten silver is poured into a mould that has been created by way of a wax model. Once the silver has solidified, the wax model is melted and drained away. Each model is then skilfully hand-chased to produce the lifelike effect seen in the finished piece.
For a truly personal model, we can work from photographs to capture the true likeness of your own pet or favourite animal cast in sterling silver. Contact us for more details.
