Six glass-bottomed silver mug whiskey tots
Set of six whiskey or vodka shot glasses, styled as miniature silver beer mugs with glass bottoms that would have been popular in the Georgian era. As examples of Indian colonial silver, these miniature silver mugs are nicely made and in perfect condition. One is very slightly shorter than the rest and the base diameter is 45mm (2").
Indian colonial silver refers to pieces produced in India for a European clientele from 1790 - when the East India Company began trading in Calcutta - until 1947 when India gained the independence from the British Raj. Originally Cooke & Kelvey were Victorian era silversmiths with their craft and designs coming from England. Their native craftsmen in Calcutta (Kolkata) were handpicked and trained by British artisans.
