Victorian silver-plated épergne & candelabra suite
7577
An impressive candelabra and épergne suite made during the middle of the Victorian era, circa 1860 by Elkington & Co. the renowned silversmithing firm that rose to prominence in the 19th century and known for its innovation in silver plating.
Both the central centrepiece and the pair of candelabra are of cast construction, with elaborate grape and vines around the stems, as well as cherubim in various poses. The épergne is accompanied by a hand-blown and hand-engraved glass bowl, perfect for floral displays, or for presenting fruits and berries.
With so many tall candle holders, the suite will provide excellent illumination across the table.
Elkington & Co was instrumental in developing and patenting the electroplating process in 1840, which made silver plating more affordable and accessible. The company became the largest and most successful silversmithing business in England.
Dimensions given are the central candelabrum/épergne. The side candelabra are:
26" tall (660 mm)
12½ (320 mm) span
