An unusual and romantic antique spoon with heart-shaped bowl and barley-twist, arrow shaft handle and a finial engraved to emulate the arrow's feather fletching. This charming spoon was made in France in the early 19th century 1st Standard French silver, 950 parts per 1000 (compared to sterling silver's 925 parts per 1000).

The creation of the iconic heart shape to signify love was first reported at the end of the Middle Ages. It gained popularity in the 15th and 16th centuries and has featured widely in decorative design throughout subsequent centuries, reaching a peak of deep significance in 18th and 19th century decorative silverware and jewellery.
