Antique Art Nouveau style wine jug with glass body and hand engraved silver mounts. The glass is both pressed with a stylised leaf and sunflower design and hand cut with a sharply detailed diamond pattern. The engraving on the silver picks up the floral theme. There is an open-work cast scroll thumb-piece mounted on the cover.

The jug holds a full 75 ml of wine.

The Art Nouveau style was often inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curves of plants and flowers; a sense of dynamism and movement. One major objective of art nouveau was to break down the traditional distinction between fine arts and applied arts, so it was widely used in interior design, jewellery and metal work. In Britain, it was influenced by William Morris and the Arts & Crafts movement.
