Art Deco style silver casket

Art Deco style silver casket

Sold

This handmade Scottish silver jewel casket was made in the 1960s but reflects an earlier era, drawing inspiration from the Art Deco period of the 1930s.

With elegant rounded corners, this oblong silver box sits on a crenelated base. The embossed lid features a stylised starburst pattern and is surmounted by a panelled ivory finial; all Art Deco design cues. The interior is lined with wood but could be converted to fit trays to hold jewellery.

Art Deco was a popular design style in the 1920s and 1930s characterised especially by sleek geometric or stylised forms. It represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. For that reason silver cocktail barware and cigar boxes were popular categories of goods to reflect the style of the time.
