Pair of early George III silver Doric column candlesticks of cast construction in the neoclassical style with elegant fluted columns, the proportions of which are taller and more elegant in form than most in this design. The removable nozzles - to aid cleaning - and bases are decorated with simple slant gadroon patterns.

The bases and nozzles feature a family crest.

Neoclassicism was born in Rome in the mid-18th century before spreading throughout Europe. It is the name given to Western movements in the arts and architecture that draw inspiration from the classical art and culture of Ancient Greece or Rome.
