Edwardian silver & mother-of-pearl blotter album
Edwardian silver & mother-of-pearl blotter album
9198
Antique green silk-lined leather desk blotter or album with a silver cover inlaid with gold and mother-of-pearl in the form of a neoclassical style basket filled with flowers.
The neoclassical styling continues with the hand engraved surround that incorporates entwined ribbons, bellflowers and scrolls, and the vase is intricately engraved to resemble basketweave.
There is a pocket to house papers and an elasticated band to hold notes in place.
Neoclassicism is the 18th and 19th century movement that developed in Europe as a reaction to the excesses of Baroque and Rococo styles that were dominant in the previous era. The movement sought to return to the classical beauty and magnificence of the Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire.
