Paul de Lamerie style antique silver bowl

Paul de Lamerie style antique silver bowl

Sold

A handsome late-Victorian antique silver bowl in the style of Paul De Lamerie. This is a beautifully hand chased bowl featuring a cast and applied rim with sections of scrolled rope and cherub masks interspersed. The chasing incorporates panels of scale-work, scrolls, foliage and bellflowers. The impressive cast lion-mask handles have swinging grips on either side and the bowl's spreading circular base is decorated with a band of fluting. Altogether a fine and handsome piece.

One of the leading English silversmiths in the first half of the 1700s, Paul de Lamerie was renowned for his technical proficiency and innovative designs using bold organic forms, influencing many silversmiths of his and later eras.
