Pair George III silver candlesticks & Old Sheffield Plate 3-light arms

Pair George III silver candlesticks & Old Sheffield Plate 3-light arms

Sold

Pair of antique silver three-light candlesticks fitted with their original Old Sheffield Plate three-light, two-branch branches. The arms engraved on the candelabra are those of the family of Burrell, baronets of Valentine House, Barking, Essex.

The branches may be taken off altogether so that the candlesticks can be used separately, or one set of branches can be stacked on the other to create a single five light candelabrum, making them extremely versatile.

Made in the workshops of Matthew Boulton, these candelabra are designed in the classic, elegant style of the late 18th century. Among his many achievements, Boulton worked with Robert Adams, one of the most celebrated architects of the era, and Josiah Wedgwood on the great houses of the period, including Syon House, Osterly Park and Harewood House.
