Edwardian one-date-&-maker Rattail sterling silver cutlery for 12
Edwardian one-date-&-maker Rattail sterling silver cutlery for 12
7582
Antique one-date-and-maker set of Rattail pattern sterling silver flatware for 12 people, with all pieces made by George Jackson & David Fullerton of London in 1908 (apart from one table fork that was made six years later). The pieces are all in excellent condition and are good heavy quality, something for which Jackson & Fullerton were known.
Partners Jackson and Fullerton produced some of the heaviest and finest quality silver cutlery of the period and in most of the traditional patterns.
The set comprises
12 table forks (1 x 1914)
12 table soup spoons
12 dessert forks
12 dessert spoons
Since antique knives rarely survive, this set is completed with 12 pairs of modern silver table and dessert knives, fitted with stainless steel blades making them dishwasher-safe. Choose from patterns that match or complement the set are Rattail, Old English Pip and Old English Spire.
Rattail is the oldest of the English designs dating from the early 1700s with the distinctive rat tail on the backs of the spoon bowls and forks. This feature developed in an age when craftsmen made spoons in two pieces joining the bowl and the handle together by means of soldering using a tapered tail as additional strength to the joint. This design also features a prominent rib down the front of the handle and continues to be a popular design to the present day.
