Set of Victorian hand-forged Fiddle pattern sterling silver cutlery for 12 with additional dessert forks & table soup or serving spoons

£ POA

Fine hand-forged Victorian silver cutlery set in the Fiddle pattern and made by George Adams, one of the finest cutlery makers of the 19th century. All pieces are in excellent condition and suitable for daily use.

Usually known as Plain Fiddle, because of the huge number of derivatives, its name springs from the fiddle-shaped handle and must rate as one of the major and lasting designs for flatware. In fact, the earliest example can be found among Roman silver in the British Museum, although its production in England in the mid 18th century stemmed from France where it was the most popular pattern.

This Fiddle pattern silver cutlery set comprises:

12 table forks
24 dessert forks
18 table soup spoons
12 dessert spoons
12 teaspoons

Since antique knives rarely survive, the service includes 12 pairs of modern Fiddle pattern silver table and dessert knives with stainless steel blades making them dishwasher safe. Our photos show other complementary knife patterns - Old English Pip, Panelled Pistol and Spire - as alternatives. Bone or faux ivory knives are also available.
