From the early 19th century, a pair of antique provincial Glasgow silver basting spoons in the Fiddle pattern and engraved with the crest and motto Spero Meliora (I aspire to greater things) of the Moffat Clan and the Lowe family. These silver spoons are in exceptionally fine and original condition.

The earliest example of Fiddle pattern can be found among Roman silver in the British Museum although its production in England in the mid 18th century stemmed from France where it was the most popular pattern.
