Tri-form silver biscuit box

Tri-form silver biscuit box

Sold

Originally called a biscuit warmer, most folding biscuit boxes we see are silver-plated. This is a highly decorated silver folding biscuit box with hand-chased, leaf-shaped silver panels fitted to a cast and hand-chased silver frame with wing handles. The interior is gilded and there are openwork spring-release panels to open and display the contents.

There is no warming device inside but the box would have stood in the hearth and turned frequently so that all sides could be warmed by the fire. Once warmed, the box would be taken to the table and opened to serve the warm biscuits, teacakes or buns. The folding biscuit box is a versatile and useful table decoration that has a multitude of uses and does not need to be confined to holding biscuits; it could also serve up sweets, berries or even hors d'oeuvres.
