Two-handled antique sterling silver trophy comport

Two-handled antique sterling silver trophy comport

Sold

A magnificent late Victorian period antique sterling silver trophy. The wide shallow bowl, stem and base are all hand chased in high relief with various scrolling foliage and acanthus leaves set against a mottled background. The rim and base feature applied classical pattern mounts: egg and dart around the rim, and acanthus leaf and shell around the base.

The raised C-shaped scrolling handles on either side carry on the lovely foliage decorations, and while this silver comport would make a wonderful centrepiece for a table, the plain shields on either side of the bowl lend themselves to being engraved if the piece is to serves as a trophy cup.
