Rare and fine handmade silver and glass wine jug in the form of a pheasant. The lifelike head and tail are hand chased in very fine detail. The interior of the head is gilded.

Realistically modelled, with coloured glass eyes, registration mark under body, marked on and in cover, on neck, leg mount and tail

The registration mark of the design, engraved under the body, is dated 27 October 1882.

This jug is a rare example from a series of jugs made by Sampson Mordan, amongst others, in the form of animals featured in the original artwork for Alice In Wonderland.
