This is one of the rarest sterling silver cutlery patterns and we are proud to have a complete handmade service for 12 people.

All pieces are double-struck signifying that the design is struck on the front and back of each piece, necessitating a heavier gauge of silver and therefore a sign of superior quality. The set was made by William Theobalds and Robert Metcalf-Atkinson of London, c1835, apart from one replacement piece by George Adams. The set is in wonderful condition and each piece is engraved with a family crest of a lion's paw.

This fine sterling silver cutlery set comprises:

12 tablespoons
12 table forks
12 dessert spoons
12 dessert forks (1 x George Adams)
12 teaspoons
2 salt spoons (gilded bowls)

Since antique knives of any pattern rarely survive, this silver cutlery set is completed with 12 modern pairs of matching Fiddle Thread & Husk silver table and dessert knives with sterling silver handles fitted with stainless steel blades, making them safe to put in the dishwasher.

C J Vander was known for producing high-quality flatware, making many of the traditional patterns by hand and some modern designs.

The pattern is a scarce, early-19th-century variant of the Fiddle pattern, not dissimilar to Fiddle Thread and Shell, but with the the distinguishing feature of a more elaborate husk-shaped shell. The spoons and forks in this silver cutlery set show the more unusual thread pattern heel.
