Wonderful quality, hand-forged, mid-Victorian silver-gilt dessert cutlery service for 18 in the rare and highly desirable Devonshire pattern, and made by one of London's premier silversmiths. Each piece is gold-plated and bears the family crest of a winged griffon.

Devonshire pattern is a rare and beautiful flatware pattern with scrolls along both edges of the double-struck handles. The cutlery being double-struck (pattern on both sides) ensures that a good gauge of silver was used in its manufacture.

It was designed in the second quarter of the 19th century by Chawner & Company and named in honour of the famous Duke of Devonshire. whose ancestral seat of the family continues at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

The set is in superb condition and comprises:

18 dessert spoons
18 dessert forks
18 dessert knives with original steel blades.
18 fruit knives with silver-gilt blades

The weight shown is for the spoons and forks only; it does not include the 36 knives.
