Novelty Edwardian handmade silver bridge playing card box with a finial mounted on the cover in the form of a pig. The novelty is that by twisting the finial, the open panel in front of the pig reveals the suit to be played.
In 1925, American innovator, expert yachtsman and champion player of bridge, and Bridge is one of the world's most popular partnership card games and has its origins in 16th-century trick-taking games such as whist. The oldest known reference to the rules of today's bridge dates from 1886 and calls it biritch, or Russian whist. It was a member of the Vanderbilt family, Harold Stirling Vanderbilt who introduced a new a new scoring system, calling it contract bridge which we play today.
