Small handmade Victorian sterling silver pepper grinder in the shape of a traditional capstan, the spool-shaped post around which cables and ropes are wound during anchoring. The pepper mill is fitted with its original and excellent Peugeot steel grinding mechanism.
A capstan is a most frequently nautical machine for moving or raising heavy weights that consists of a vertical drum which can be rotated and around which cable is turned.
