Pair Art Nouveau glass & silver wine jugs

Pair Art Nouveau glass & silver wine jugs

Sold

Pair of antique glass and silver wine jugs in the Art Nouveau manner. The hand-blown ovoid glass bodies have applied beaded straps forming four panels decorated with hand cut flowers and foliage, while the silver collars are hand chased with a similar floral motif. The scalloped aprons carry on the beaded strap pattern and are dimpled, as are the hinged covers, and the lovely twist pattern handles are really comfortable to hold.

Art Nouveau was an ornamental style of art that flourished between 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. The distinguishing ornamental characteristics are its long undulating asymmetrical line, often taking the form of flower stalks and buds, vine tendrils, insect wings, and other delicate and sinuous natural objects.
