Large silver-mounted whiskey noggin

Large silver-mounted whiskey noggin

Sold

Unusually large whiskey noggin or whiskey jug with a nicely hand-engraved, conical glass body. The silver mounted flip lid is topped with a pierced, peineta-shaped thumbpiece and the jug's capacity is 250ml.

The whiskey noggin is traditionally considered to be of Scottish origin and "go to bed" or "chota peg" in anglo-Indian colonial speak.

The noggin is used for serving an individual portion of whiskey equivalent to a gill (quarter of a pint) and sufficient to have a soporific effect on the drinker.
