Exceptional set of George III hand-forged one-date-maker King's pattern sterling silver cutlery for 12
Exceptional set of George III hand-forged one-date-maker King's pattern sterling silver cutlery for 12
8906
Exceptional and early example of King's pattern sterling silver cutlery - one of the most important designs that is still made to this day. This set is in exceptional condition with a beautifully defined double-struck pattern on both sides.
Double-struck signifies that the design is struck on the front and back of each piece, necessitating a heavier gauge of silver and therefore a sign of quality. All pieces are engraved with a family crest.
King's is one of the most popular of all flatware patterns, dating principally from the early 19th century, although occasionally, since it is based on French 18th century designs, earlier examples may found. Large quantities of this pattern were produced throughout the 19th century, and are still made today. This is one of the easiest patterns for building a service and is not to be confused with the Hourglass or Queen's patterns.
