Set of Victorian hand-forged King's pattern sterling silver cutlery for 12
8514
Fine quality handmade set of King's pattern sterling cutlery by George Adams, c1860, with the addition of modern knives and a fish service by Goldsmiths Company of London in 1902.
This is a wonderful heavy-quality double-struck set - meaning that the pattern is created on both sides of each piece; a sign of superior quality. All pieces are in excellent condition, with crisp pattern and long prongs.
King's is one of the most popular of all flatware patterns, dating principally from the early 19th century, although occasionally, since it is based on French 18th century designs, earlier examples may found. Large quantities of this pattern were produced throughout the 19th century, and are still made today. This is one of the easiest patterns for building a service and is not to be confused with the Hourglass or Queen's patterns.
This cutlery service is presented in a lined three-drawer wooden canteen and comprises:
12 table forks
12 dessert forks
12 table soup spoons
12 dessert spoons
12 teaspoons
1 basting spoon
1 soup ladle
Pair of fish servers
12 modern table knives
12 modern dessert knives
The table and dessert knives are fitted with stainless steel blade ensuring they are suitable for putting in the dishwasher.
Made by Goldsmith & Silversmiths, London 1902
