Superb quality antique silver soup tureen, fitted with a raised cover with detachable, finely modelled detachable finial and emblazoned with the arms of Sir Ford North.

The oval melon-shaped fluted body has cast and hand chased raised handles decorated with spreading leaf work and flowers in high relief. Above the finely detailed scrolling leaf supports there are section of flower heads and leaves. The cover is hand chased with sections of acanthus leaves.

More than just a soup tureen, it is a magnificent centrepiece, and with cover removed, would be excellent for both for use as a fruit bowl or to display flowers.

Sir Ford North was a judge, Knight Bachelor and member of His Majesty's Privy Council in 1900.
