This impressive early Victorian silver cruet frame has eight crystal bottles each hand-cut with diamond facetting. Six have elegant glass stoppers and two have silver tops by Creswick & Co. The silver condiment frame is prettily engraved with flowers and scrolling foliage against a shaded background.
The condiments of the day would have included among others a combination of oil, vinegar, mustard, caster sugar, pepper, tabasco, pepper, soy sauce, ketchup (not the thick bright red stuff we have today). Of course, you can fill them with your personal favourite condiments.
The condiment set made its way from France to England in the 17th century, although only the smartest English houses would have had them on the table. No self respecting Victorian dining table would have been without one, made in cut glass and silver by choice, and the largest would have held ten vessels.
