Impressive Victorian silver pedestal bowl

Impressive Victorian silver pedestal bowl

Sold

A stunning antique silver bowl or jardiniere, based on a classical style with a round pedestal base and oval boat-shaped dish. It is hand-chased with bas-relief entwined leaf and flower decoration and has two scrolling handles cast as stylised acanthus leaves. It looks particularly beautiful as a silver table centrepiece filled with flowers or fruit.

Possibly the oldest manufacturing silversmith in the world, Barnard Brothers made pieces of the finest order. The large silver-gilt baptismal font used at the baptisms of members of the British Royal Family is a fine example of their work.
